Panpandiar Well Project
Clean water saves lives.
Sycamore Initiative is focused on supporting communities whom are experiencing erasure and the need to obtain essential resources. One of our current projects, in partnership with South Sudan Hope Network, aims to install a well at the Panpandiar School in South Sudan, addressing critical challenges related to water access.
Right now, in Panpandiar Village, girls are making the decision to either gather contaminated water at the Nile, or to walk hours each day to collect clean drinking water. They are choosing between safe water and time in the classroom learning.
We believe in a world where all children in South Sudan, especially girls, have access to education, clean water, and the opportunity to thrive in safe and self-sustaining communities.
We are able to reenforce this mission by resourcing the people of Panpandiar to install the solar well at the Panpandiar Village School. The well will provide sustainable access to clean water for hundreds of families, students, and local workers that have been deeply affected by water scarcity and poverty in the aftermath of the war that has displaced 14.5 million people throughout Sudan.
South Sudan Hope Network partners with local engineers, purchases all materials locally, and uses local labor in order to stimulates the economy and instill a sense of local ownership resulting in increased care of the school site and resources.
SSHN is the perfect partner to build the well as they’ve already successfully completed the construction of the Panpandiar School building and have the community connections necessary to complete the project. The Solar Well installation is the first goal in their three-pronged Panpandiar Village School Promise to ignite self-reliance, restore dignity, and create generational change.
Sycamore Initiative and the South Sudan Hope Network are aligned in our visions of turning hardship into hope and creating peaceful, sustainable, futures. We believe in empowering local communities, keeping girls in school, and adequate water and sanitation for all.
